NEARLY 1,000 Aviva Life staff in York are to be moved into different offices in a major shake-up of accommodation.
More than 600 employees at offices in Monks Cross, Huntington, and 300 in Roman House, Rougier Street, will be relocated so the two buildings can be sub-let.
A spokeswoman for Aviva Life said: “We are constantly looking at the most efficient way to manage our properties and we know we have enough space available in York to sub-let these offices to make the business more efficient.
“The affected staff, together with senior teams will work out exactly where they are moving to, but at this stage nothing has been decided.”
Staff, involving a number of business areas such as customer experience, finance and IT, are likely to speculate that their new workplaces could be either Wellington Row, on the Ouse, or Yorkshire House, next door to Roman House.
Aviva, which is already planning to sub-let its empty Eboracum building at Clifton Park, will put the tenancies for both Monks Cross and Roman House on the market in June, but the 600 staff at Monks Cross will not relocate until a sub-tenant is found for the edge-of-city property.
The spokeswoman said that the moves were not directly linked to the 349 permanent job losses announced in April, 2009.
“We simply have more space than we actually need,” she said.
“We will be working closely with our employees over the coming weeks to ensure any office moves are completed as smoothly as possible for all concerned.”
“We have said that we will work out with senior teams where their new work station will be – it has not yet been decided where it would be.
“There is space at a number of Aviva properties in the city, including Wellington Row and Yorkshire House, and the empty Eboracum building at Clifton Park is also up for sub-let.
“The Roman House staff will move out by the end of September to either Yorkshire House or Wellington Row.”
