I agree with Ken Holmes and Eunice Birch about the doom and gloom Aled Jones spreads with his misquoted proverb: “Cast not a clout till May be out” (No weather worries, Letters, May 20). It’s just not on, sunshine!

It is reported to be an old cricketing phrase accredited to Peter May, (the England batsman of yester-year) and he couldn’t half clout ’em.

So I would advise: “Catch not at the shadow and lose the substance,” Aled, next time you’re in the field.
