A new statue was unveiled to schoolchildren, residents and councillors in Bishopthorpe Road, York.
Ailsa Magnus, a Selby artist, was chosen by residents to produce the sculpture, which was funded at a a cost of £7,300 to the local Micklegate ward committee.
Micklegate councillor Sandy Fraser said the statue had fulfilled its purpose as a “conversation piece” and described the work as “visionary”.
According to Ailsa, the statue is a representation of “modern-day guardians”; a Terry’s employee holding a Chocolate Orange, a shopper, representing commerce, and a child, representing the future.
Members of the community and pupils at Scarcroft Primary School helped in the design.
Coun Fraser said the sculpture was the first step in trying to enhance the area at the busy junction of Scarcroft Road and Bishopthorpe Road.
