THERE was a surprise in the Fulford Ladies Invitation Tennis League top-flight, where York were beaten by Dunnington for the first time in many years.
Led by Nicola Loten and Nicola Mooney, who had three good wins in collecting 28 games, Dunnington coach Karen Mitchell and Joyce Rhodes collected 21 games, while newcomer Lindsey Jacks, in tandem with Karen Milne, had a great 8-4 triumph over the York number one pairing to seal a 68-40 win.
Fulford 2 prevailed 68-40 over Copmanthorpe in the duel of the division two newcomers.
There were stand-out 8-4, 11-1 and 8-4 victories respectively for Fulford’s Pauline Craddock and Lisa Garland, Pam Campbell and Elizabeth Mallory, and the axis of Wendy Cook and Linda Irving.
After three straight wins, Appleton Roebuck were beaten 69-39 by Wigginton, whose returning Sue Espiner and Julie Noonan had three separate victories of 8-4, 12-0 and 7-5.
