Aviva staff in York helped raise £100,000 for a homeless children’s charity by spending a night outside the insurer’s offices in the city.
As reported in The Press, more than 30 employees of the insurance giant, including John Lister, finance director of Aviva UK Life, slept rough outside the Yorkshire House building in Rougier Street to highlight the issue of street children.
The event was part of Aviva’s Street To School programme, which is designed to help vulnerable children get off the streets and back into education.
Mark Hodges, chief executive of Aviva UK, said: “Since we announced our Street to School programme we’ve had a hugely positive response, but it’s fair to say that the fundraising has exceeded our expectations.”
