TWO talented young artists from a York school picked up prizes in a competition which asked youngsters to depict their favourite day out in York or Yorkshire.

Emma Calam, aged seven, was named the overall winner, and Laura Murray, also seven, was one of the nine runners-up.

Both are pupils at Lakeside Primary School. Emma’s design earned her a family day out in York, plus £100 worth of book vouchers for her school.

Laura won a Yorkshire Pass for her family, giving them free admission to a number of visitor attractions in the region.

The girls’ designs will take pride of place on audio visual screens in the new Visitor Information Centre, which was opening today in York.

Chris Morton, manager of the new centre, said: “The posters that Emma and Laura created really brought to life their favourite day out in the region and highlighted the many things to see and do in York and Yorkshire.

Ros Latham, head teacher at the school, said: “Emma and Laura both worked really hard to design something special for Visit York’s competition.

“We are thrilled that two of the ten prizes have gone to pupils in our school.”
