Brian Page takes delight in the many and varied delights of town houses.
One of the great things about townhouses is the varying styles on offer – something to suit every lifestyle in fact.
Take our first two properties this week. One is a modern contemporary house, the second a traditional period home.
Both have a huge amount to offer and each has their very own distinctive styles.
The first is offered by Hunters in the shape of a newly refurbished executive three-storey home in St Andrewgate, York, sitting snugly inside the city walls yet only a short walk to the railway station. Here there is an entrance hall, utility room and downstairs WC. On the first-floor there is a newly fitted kitchen and an open plan lounge/diner while to the second floor there is a newly fitted bathroom with shower, two double bedrooms and a single bedroom. Smart, modern and easy on the eye, it comes with an allocated secure parking place at a rental (furnished) of £950pcm.
Arena Letting by contrast can offer a super Grade II listed period home in Holgate Road, York, a top location within easy walking distance of the city centre and railway station and offering easy access to the A64 and A59. Having a wealth of original features throughout, the house is laid out over four floors – and has the added benefit of gardens to front and rear and parking for two cars (gold dust in houses of this kind). The ground floor has a lounge, family room/bedroom 4 and WC. To the lower ground you’ll find a dining room and large breakfast kitchen, a door to the rear garden and a utility room, To the first floor is a family bathroom with walk-in shower area and master bedroom and to the second floor are two further bedrooms. It is offered at a rental of £1,500pcm.
Among the other highlights we turned up this week was a newly refurbished two-bedroomed terraced house in Hambleton Terrace, to let on a furnished basis. Within walking distance of York city centre and well located for access to the ring road, it offers an entrance hall, two reception rooms, kitchen to include appliances on the ground floor and two bedrooms and a large shower room to the first floor. It is offered by Ashtons at £695pcm.
Linley & Simpson, meanwhile, have a fine pair of town houses, the first being a four bedroomed unfurnished period property in St Johns Street, off Lord Mayor’s Walk, with views of the city walls and the Minster. The house offers reception rooms to front and back, a fully fitted modern kitchen with gas hob and oven, fridge freezer, washer/dryer and dishwasher. On the first floor there is a master bedroom with en suite shower room, a single bedroom /study and a family bathroom with free standing roll top bath with shower over the bath. On the next floor up there are two more double bedrooms. The rental is £1,195pcm.
The second L&S offering is in Knavesmire Crescent, South Bank, a well presented three bedroomed mid terrace house overlooking the Knavesmire, offered unfurnished.
This home has an open plan lounge/dining room, a kitchen with washer/dryer, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, oven and hob, two double bedrooms, one single bedroom and bathroom with shower over bath. It also has an enclosed rear yard with two outhouses, gas central heating and on street parking. The rental is £895pcm.
Finally, Stephensons can prove that town houses are not the preserve of York city centre as they have an interesting duo to offer.
The first is in The Terrace, Rufforth, a recently modernized terraced cottage sitting cosily on the edge of the village and convenient for York and the outer ring road. With recently fitted new carpets and freshly decorated, this one offers a lounge, refitted kitchen with integral appliances, two bedrooms and a house bathroom.
Gardens and a parking space make up the package which is offered at £575pcm.
And the second Stephenson property this week is in Long Street, Easingwold, A charming period terraced property occupying a choice position within the heart of the market town, the property has retained a number of its original features.
Offered unfurnished, it has a spacious lounge, separate dining room, kitchen and ground floor bathroom.
On the first-floor there are two double bedrooms. There is an enclosed rear Courtyard and outbuilding. The rental is £525pcm.
