RESIDENTS and businesses are being invited to express their views on potential sites for thousands of homes in East Yorkshire.
In Pocklington, a newly-unveiled East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s blueprint states 1,079 more homes are required in the next 15 years.
The authority’s document states 710 more homes should be built in Market Weighton, 76 in Wilberfoss, 154 in Stamford Bridge and 145 in Holme-on-Spalding Moor before 2025. Maps for the potential sites on the centre and outskirts of the towns have been released as part of the council’s Local Development Framework (LDF), which outlines its planning policies and proposals for housing, employment, retail, open space and transport requirements until 2026.
Responses to the council’s initial consultation with residents and businesses will be used to produce a Preferred Sites document, which is due to be published in early 2011.
Town clerk for Pocklington Town Council Richard Wood said the 1,079 houses to be built until 2026 represented a lower rate of increase than the town had experienced in the past 15 years.
He said the council was making an official response to the proposed sites in June. But he said the potential sites outlined in the plan were all on land put forward for development by landowners.
He said only a fraction of the proposed sites shown on the consultation map would be developed, because the total space of the proposed sites, many of which would not be chosen, could accommodate to up to 7,000 homes.
The proposed sites include the current site of Pocklington Rugby Club on Percy Lane and Burnby Lane, Francis Scaife Playing Fields and pieces of land on The Balk, including the site of Pocklington Sports And Social Club.
In Wilberfoss, potential sites for housing development include land at office sites The Chestnuts and The Harvest Centre on Hull Road.
The consultation period will continue until July 12.
