PART of one of York’s busiest roads will be closed next week as a major resurfacing operation gets under way.

The first phase of the work will begin on Tuesday and lead to Haxby Road being closed to traffic from Greenfields to the Haley’s Terrace roundabout, although motorists will still be able to use Haley’s Terrace to turn right towards New Earswick, and vice versa.

This section of the operation will run until June 11, while between June 14 and 18 Haley’s Terrace will be closed to traffic from Haxby Road but open to vehicles travelling from Huntington Road and Fossway. There will be no access to Yearsley Swimming Pool and the Nestlé car park from Haley’s Terrace, with alternative access being put in place on Haxby Road.

The final phase, running from June 21 to 25, will see Haley’s Terrace closed to traffic from Huntington Road and Fossway but open to traffic from Haxby Road. There will be no access to on-street parking along Haley’s Terrace from June 1 to June 25, but pedestrian access will be available at all times, although access to some streets in the area will also be restricted.
