STUDENTS from a Selby area school are among 14,000 pupils from across England who have been invited to a free charity concert at London’s O2 Arena.

Twelve pupils from Barlby High School will be travelling to the capital on Tuesday, July 13, to celebrate the first anniversary of young peoples’ charity Transformation Trust.

Heather Scott, head teacher at Barlby, said the students were very excited about the gig, which would feature chart acts including Tinchy Stryder and Stacey Solomon.

Mrs Scott said: “I have really enjoyed working with the Trust and was delighted to be invited to bring representatives from my school to take part in the birthday celebrations.

“The lucky students are being selected as the best ambassadors for our school. We are excited about the bands and performers who are scheduled to appear, and will make the most of every second there.”

As well as the chart acts, six student bands will perform at the event as part of the Blastbeat battle of the bands, competing for development deals with record labels and management companies.

The Transformation Trust works with young people to help develop self-confidence and teach new skills, by giving students free access to extra-curricular activities in their schools.

Sir David Bell, chairman of the trust, said the charity helped children realise their potential. He said: “I’m delighted that top music and dance acts, and student bands are joining us to make this a birthday party to remember. We want other young people to benefit from the experiences and opportunities that will help them fulfil their potential, and the Trust is a great vehicle to make sure that no child misses out on opportunities because of where they live or go to school.”
