In response to the letter by David Quarrie, how wrong he is to say that to increase the price of booze is a good thing (Rights and wrongs of booze price law, May 25).
The 15 to 25-year-olds he refers to as the main problem to binge drinking will not be put off drinking by a price increase, even if the Government doubled the price, because they can afford to pay.
It is not acceptable that sensible drinkers and OAPs, the poor and disadvantaged can suffer and will have to go without to help combat the situation.
It is about time the Government stopped punishing everyone. All my life I have been punished for everyone else’s mistakes, including the hike in insurances, rates and goods (because of shoplifters).
If only the offenders were properly punished and not with just a small fine, then they’d think twice.
Mr A McCarthy, Friars Walk, York.
