A TEAM devoted to reducing York’s carbon footprint are preparing to attract more support to their cause.
To mark World Environment Day on June 5, local activists will be setting up an information stall next to the new sculpture in Bishopthorpe Road which will provide tips on how people can adopt a greener way of life.
The Green Streets Challenge is running alongside the 10:10 campaign, the objective of which is to reduce York’s carbon emissions by ten per cent by the end of this year.
Micklegate councillor Julie Gunnell, who is part of the team, said: “Green Streets is a fantastic year-long campaign which is encouraging residents of six neighbourhoods in the city to do their bit meeting the 10:10 objective.
“We are focused on giving people the right information which will help them make informed choices about travel, waste reduction and their consumption habits. Bishopthorpe Road is a great area for this to be taking place as local people are keen to do their bit for the environment, and I’m happy to be part of something which allows them to do this.”
The stall will be held between 9.30am and 12.30pm on June 5.
