I write in response to the article on the uncertainty of the York community stadium project (The Press, May 27).
Perhaps one should not be so over trusting of our Liberal Democrat politicians in York, but I am obviously wrong to presume they were on course to deliver their 2007 manifesto promise that such a sports stadium would be open by 2011.
Other claims in support of sports and leisure in the 2007 York Liberal Democrats manifesto publication also promise “new generation facilities”, with a promise that the much-loved Barbican Centre in the heart of the city – closed by the Liberal Democrats in 2004 – would be completely modernised and fully reopened in the autumn of 2007, as well as the promise of new swimming pool facilities at Heslington.
There seems to be a worrying trend in the broken manifesto promises of the Liberal Democrats, which the residents of York voted for in 2007.
As a York resident, I stand alongside Labour councillor James Alexander and MP Hugh Bayley in their real support for this new community sports stadium, which I am certain would be a facility enjoyed by all residents and something we can be proud of as a city.
