New Earswick All Blacks ARLC Under-13s cruised to a 58-0 victory over York Acorn in the annual York Area Cup final.
The game was a curtain-raiser for the open age York & District Accident Cup final between Selby Warriors and the All Blacks at Heworth’s Elm Park Way. Acorn battled on but could not contend with the pace and movement of their rivals.
Charlie Nogan, son of former York City and Wales footballer Lee Nogan, led the way with a hat-trick, with Alex Wilkins (2), Max Coley (2), Adam Shields (2), Jim Casey and Charlie Hill also crossing. Harry Moorcroft added seven goals.
New Earswick U10s’ unbeaten run ended as a speedy Churwell ran riot out wide to win 40-22.
Daniel Watson was again All Blacks’ man of the match, while fellow forward Harry Suter was the opposition’s choice of top man. Suter also crossed the try-line and converted.
Harvey Baynes was ‘team player’ and got a try and goal, the improving Daniel Craven got his first try this season when he caught a high ball under pressure, and Thomas Noble also crossed and goaled.
Henri Grimbley’s improved tackling and dominance at acting-half saw him named man of the match as Heworth U10s returned to winning ways with a 30-10 victory against Whinmoor.
Shay North, the opponent’s choice of man of the match, opened the scoring, ‘team player’ Harry Sheppeard sprinted 60 metres home, both goaling, and Josh Rogerson raced in for two converted scores for a 24-0 interval lead.
Top tackler Sam Young later capped a fine game by scoring a try after a strong run, converting it himself, while Leon Beattie was ‘man of steel’ for bravery in defence.
New Earswick U9s lost ten tries to three to a strong Castleford Panthers.
All Blacks worked hard to gain field position, man-of-the-match Joe Davison, top tackler Fin Osborne and Sam Adelugba leading the way, while Tyler Ashfield and Reece Ounsley made breaks out wide. Earswick completed 13 out of 18 sets, which was a great return.
Ashfield and Adelugba scored for a 3-2 scoreline before New Earswick’s nine players began to tire against Cas’s 13, Osborne getting their only other – and best – try after linking well with Davison, the effort earning both the ‘magic moment’ award.
Heworth U8s put in a mixed display against Batley Boys, often matching their opponents but losing by two tries.
Heworth too often wasted possession, gifting their opponents opportunities.
Spencer Harris was man of match, Kian Oliver notched a brace of tries and won ‘magic moment’ for some crunching tackles. They was supported by Jak Ostergaard, Alex Bell and Myles Harrison, who all scored. Jay Richards was most improved due to great defence.
New Earswick U8s continued their good form against Townville Tigers, not least four-try man-of-the-match Joshua Kelly.
Lewis Young was top tackler, scored twice and took the ‘magic moment’ award for a full-length try, while Reece Officer was most improved player and Ellena Powell the rising star with great cover tackling and scoring herself. Robbie Gibb Kirk also crossed in an 8-5 win.
