A SCINTILLATING finale powered York-born king of clubs Simon Dyson into a healthy position for this weekend’s climax to the Madrid Masters, writes Tony Kelly.
Dyson followed his first round two-under-par 70 at the Real Sociedad Hipica Espanola country club with a spirited three-under 69.
That tied the world number 68 in 14th place going into the business end of the European Tour event.
The 32-year-old’s outward nine comprised eight pars and a bogey, a dropped shot on the par-three second.
But after another streak of pars Dyson birdied four of the final five holes to rekindle his drive.
Harrogate GC’s John Parry’s six birdies were countered by four bogeys as he posted a 70 for a two-under-par midway total.
Luke Donald and Rhys Davies lead the field on 12-under.
