Clifton amateur boxer Lee Stewart wrapped up his season with a gallant defeat.
After his last win over Yorkshire champion Ben Peacock, coaches of the 19-year-old Stewart opted to move him up against a national champion, but that fight was called off with Stewart’s opponent suffering an injury.
Stewart was then pitted against Tom Knight (Hull Fish Trades Amateur Boxing Club), who has been training with the England squad all season.
The Clifton ace conceded height, weight and reach advantage but the three-round bout proved a tight encounter with both fighters demonstrating clean punching and well-timed shots.
The points verdict eventually went to Knight for only the second loss of the season for Stewart.
