HARRY Matthews is hoping the Sky’s the limit.
The Pocklington Rocket is scheduled to fight Ciaran Healy at the renowned Belfast Kings Hall on June 11 on a card which could see his bout shown on Sky TV’s Friday Fight Night.
It will be a big night for the 22-year-old middleweight as he will be looking to score his tenth successive win since entering the professional arena two years ago.
Matthews is continuing to work with York trainer Glenn Banks but has also signed up to respected handler Bob Shannon, who works out of Ricky Hatton’s Hyde-based gym, to his corner.
That will lead to sparring sessions with Ricky’s brother, Matthew – the current European welterweight champion.
Healy, 35, has won ten and drawn one of his 26 fights and will meet Matthews, who stopped Terry Carruthers in his last contest at the Milton Keynes Football Stadium in March, in a battle set to last six, three-minute rounds.
Boasting an unblemished record, Matthews is hoping the Healy fight, his work with Shannon and the possibility of national television airtime can continue his steady rise up the middleweight rankings.
“I know he (Healy) tries to slow the pace down,” Matthews said.
“He’s a nice, tidy boxer and he’s got a bit of power.
“I know he can be dangerous when he wants to be. I have got to outwork him, pace my shots.
“The fight is on the undercard of a European title fight featuring Paul McCloskey and hopefully Sky will show my fight as well.
“It’s the next stepping stone.
“It would be fantastic (to appear on Sky). I am 9-0 and they have shown fighters who are 5-0 before. It’s time for my television exposure.”
On his work with Shannon, Matthews added: “It definitely brings me on.
“I am also happy with Glenn.
“He is dedicated to me and I am to him. It’s about working with someone who you have got a good bond with.
“It’s going to be a great experience at Belfast Kings Hall.
“I have just had a little bit of a bug but I am getting back in the gym. There’s two weeks to go and I am stepping up.”
