I JUST had to respond to Mike Usherwood’s comments about the World Cup. For a man his age his knowledge is remarkably low on life around him.
He states that the people who watch the World Cup are the “minority”, but at the same time complains about all the pubs showing the event (all of them full, by the way) and how if just one pub would advertise “no World Cup here” people would be able to escape it.
Doesn’t he know that no Samuel Smith pubs even have a licence for music, games, TV, etc, and there are plenty of Sam Smith pubs in York.
But just for Mike I’ve thought of an event that would suit him. We could have a “sport” where motorists who are bored could compete against each other at spotting cyclists breaking the law.
The one with the most points could be given free petrol, then he could keep practising until the next “cycle watching” World Cup arrives.
Peter Blake, York.
