PLANS to improve safety at one of York’s key junctions are to come under the spotlight next week.
The proposals include making changes to the Fishergate gyratory system in the centre of the city and to the northern stretch of Fulford Road between Cemetery Road and Fishergate Primary School.
Work on improving the section of the route between Heslington Lane and Cemetery Road has already been carried out, and the next step will be considered at a decision session for City of York Council’s executive member for city strategy, Coun Steve Galloway, tomorrow.
The potential improvements include widening footpaths, providing new pedestrian refuges, creating more space for buses and installing new signal crossings and cycle lanes.
If the proposals are approved at the meeting, residents in the Fishergate area will be able to have their say on them before a final decision is taken.
A further set of plans for improving the Cemetery Road junction are still being developed and are set to be discussed at a later date.
