A FINAL round of 68 earned York golfer Simon Dyson a share of tenth place at the Madrid Masters.

The 32-year-old finished on 11-under-par for the tournament after a consistent four days which brought rounds of 70, 69, 70 and 68.

His reward for a six-way tie for tenth was prize money of 25,425 euros.

That kept him in sixth place in the European points table and on course for Ryder Cup qualification.

In yesterday’s final round, Dyson dropped a shot at the par-five third hole, but picked up shots at the fifth, seventh and eighth.

On the back nine, he birdied the 11th, 12th and 16th, dropping a shot on the 15th.

In round three on Saturday, his challenge was derailed by a triple-bogey seven at the 15th hole.

Despite that blip, he recovered his composure to birdie the 17th and par the 18th for a round of 70. Dyson had earlier eagled the par-five third and then picked up shots at the fifth and sixth holes, before bogeys at seven and nine sandwiched a birdie at eight.

He opened the back nine with a birdie, but a run of four pars was shattered by that seven.

The tournament was won by Luke Donald, who claimed his first trophy for four years.

Donald finished on 21-underpar, one shot clear of Welshman Rhys Davies.
