A YORK couple were special guests at the reopening of a well-known restaurant - 33 years after celebrating their wedding reception there.
Edwin and Jennifer Simpson married on May 28, 1977, at York Register Office before holding the reception at the at The Tanglewood on the A64.
“We used to go there with friends. Tanglewood always stood out as somewhere to go for a special meal – in fact one of our favourite dishes was the Chateaubriand,” said Mr Simpson.
“So when we decided we were getting married, there was only one place to hold the reception.”
With 50 guests and a cake created by Terry’s of York, the Tanglewood reception was a great success. “It was a very good spread – a delicious fork buffet,” Mr Simpson recalled. “Everyone enjoyed themselves. They did us proud.”
Mr Simpson, now 64, worked at Rowntree’s and his wife, 63, ran the Gainsborough Hair Salon in Shambles, York.
After they had a daughter 31 years ago they moved to run a general store and hair salon at Hunmanby. Mrs Simpson is now retired and her husband is due to retire next month.
The Tanglewood now has new owners Nick and Sandra Thomas from Scarborough.
Nick is chairman of Qdos Entertainment PLC one of the largest entertainment groups in Europe, which represents stars including Lord Lloyd Webber.
