TRAVELLERS set up a camp beside a car park east of York over the bank holiday weekend.
The travellers moved a number of caravans on to a site next to Grimston Bar Park&Ride site, off Hull Road.
Their arrival comes shortly after a camp of about 30 cars and caravans left a site at the Airfield Business Park in Elvington in May.
Despite fears from local businesses that the site would be made a mess, they did not leave much litter behind, according to a worker from the business park.
Christine Shepherd, co-ordinator of the York Travellers’ Trust, said a lot of the local community discriminated against travellers and didn’t want them around.
She said: “Local authorities need to be thinking about legal places for the travellers to camp, rather than wasting taxpayers’ money by evicting them.”
