A FOOTBALL fan has been given a ten-month prison sentence following a post-match brawl in which brooms and mobs were hurled at police.

The fights followed a non-league match between Luton Town and York City on May 3.

Anders Johansen pleaded guilty to a public order offence earlier this month.

He was jailed for one count of violent disorder at Luton Crown Court.

Luton supporters invaded the pitch following their team’s 1-0 defeat by York in the Blue Square Premier League semi-final play-off.

Missiles including coins were thrown at York’s players and riot police were called in after the game at the Hatters’ home ground, Kenilworth Road.

Stewards and police had to help York’s players escape to the dressing rooms through the away end.

Six other people arrested on suspicion of public order and drunk and disorderly offences are on bail pending further inquiries.
