MOTORISTS faced bank holiday misery on the roads around York.
Traffic heading eastbound from York on the A64 yesterday was bumper to bumper between Grimston Bar and the Hopgrove roundabout as day-trippers headed to the coast.
Meanwhile, motorists in York city centre were also held up by lengthy delays as road closures caused chaos for bank holiday travellers.
Heavy traffic, combined with the closure of Barbican Road and Lawrence Street because of a major gas repair programme, caused long queues on Hull Road.
Lawrence Street is closed for a fortnight at its Barbican Road and Foss Islands Road junction and Barbican Road is closed between Wellington Street and Paragon Street until the end of July.
