I am pleased Anne McIntosh won her seat convincingly. She worked hard as a constituency MP for us, particularly when the Rawcliffe lake flooded so many properties some years back, and I supported her.
She doesn’t use endless, playground cat-calling across the floor of the house at the other side, as so many do.
On the first day back, even though the Conservatives and the Lib Dems are trying to show us a brand new style of consensus Government, they fell straight back into the old slanging match as an example for new MPs.
She is also one of the least tainted by the expenses scandal. Many others had a finger in the pie. Lots had their fists in and others jumped in feet first and wallowed in it, arguing they had every right to do so, when caught.
She will serve her new constituents well. Not as well as they would be with proper proportional representation, but better than with an unfettered, full-blown, single-party Government.
George Appleby, Clifton, York.
