Selby Young Carers were thrilled when comedian Tommy Cannon made a surprise appearance to celebrate the opening of their eagerly awaited new community room.
TBarratt Yorkshire East teamed up with Selby Hands of Hope and donated more than £20,000 to turn the original dark space into a bright and airy games room, complete with a modern kitchen donated by Symphony Kitchens.
Help was also forthcoming from Calverts Carpets, Kingsley Child Electricians, Graham Porter Plumbers, Ford Windows, RM Poole Decorators, MJB Plastering, MKM Building Supplies, Show Business Interiors and Designer Contracts.
Selby Young Carers Association provides support for young carers in Selby aged between eight and 18.
A carer is someone who provides help and support to a friend, neighbour or relative who could not manage otherwise.
Paul Newman, managing director at Barratt Yorkshire East, said: “It has been a real eye-opener to see how things that are often taken for granted can mean so much to others.”
