A JUNGLE call will herald the start of a York festival which will transform the city into a jungle of art and music this weekend.
Hundreds of youngsters will spring into action at the Minster Gardens on Sunday for the launch of York Carnival, including local schoolchildren and youth groups who will showcase an array of costumes, masks and musical instruments.
A Parliament Street stage will be packed with acts throughout the day, including performances from cheerleaders, singers, dancers and drummers, while a safari island will see voluntary groups and craftsmen display their goods and explorers discover the workshop jungle in St Sampson’s Square.
Acoustic bands and traditional music groups will take centre stage in St Helen’s Square to perform tunes from across the world, with workshops and face-painting also being part of the carnival and King’s Square housing a showcase of young musical, dance, acting and other talents.
More information about the event, which has been organised by University of York students together with City of York Council, is available at www.yorkfestivals.com
