THE anniversary of the Queen’s coronation was marked in York with a gun salute.

The public gathered in a sunny Museum Gardens yesterday and watched as 5 Regiment Royal Artillery, based at Catterick, fired a 21-gun salute on the stroke of noon.

York was one of 12 saluting stations along with London, Belfast, Edinburgh and Cardiff, and the only one in the north of England. Gun Commander, Lt Andy Helmrich, 27, from Heworth, led the 28-strong firing party in the salute.

Four 105 mm light guns fired the 21 rounds at 15 second intervals.
