DRIVERS have been warned to expect delays throughout the summer on a major road south of York.

A huge road repair scheme, on the A19 between its interchange with the A64 and Escrick, will start on Monday and is expected to take 16 weeks to complete.

A new drainage system will be fitted and resurfacing work is also being carried out.

Road safety improvements are also set to be installed near Deighton, which will involve widening the road to make space for a traffic island for pedestrians and a right-hand lane at the Main Street junction.

City of York Council road workers will be on site seven days a week, from 6am to 10pm, with 24-hour traffic signals being put in place. There will be phased road closures and diversion routes will be arranged.
