A MAN has admitted sending obscene text messages to a 15-year-old Pocklington girl.

Barry Underwood, 59, of Eastern Way, Letchworth, Hertfordshire, will be sentenced later this month after pleading guilty at North Herts Magistrates Court in Stevenage yesterday to sending a communication of an offensive nature.

A Pocklington mother told The Press in April that her daughter had been sent a series of sexually explicit text messages on a mobile phone which made her feel “sick to the bottom of my stomach”.

The mother claimed police originally told her the man suspected of sending the messages could not be arrested, only to perform a U-turn later after she had complained to her MP.

However, Hertfordshire Police said the woman had only been warned it might not be possible to arrest him under the specific guidelines laid down by The Sexual Offences Act 2003, and it had subsequently been decided to make an arrest after reviewing information.
