I WAS one of those who stood in St Sampson’s Square (The Press, June 1) protesting against the killing of members of the Palestinian aid convoy by the Israeli military.
Once more Israel has proved its shameless disregard not only for the international community and law, but also of the very claim on which it bases its right to exist.
Time and again the Torah calls on the Jews to “remember that you were strangers in the land of Egypt”.
The Israeli government will plead security concerns in justification. But, if these biblical reminders serve any purpose, it is surely to dismiss such glib self-interested excuses for harming others.
This latest atrocity provides yet another sad measure of just how far Zionism and the so-called ‘Jewish state’ have departed from all that is most positive and inspiring in the teachings of Judaism.
