I AM researching the management of the Home Front in York during the Second World War for my MA thesis.

For part of this, I would very much like to interview people who worked for York Council or at the railway during the years 1939-1945, or who owned or worked for a private company involved in war work, for example Bettys Café or Rowntree.

I am also keen to talk to anyone involved in voluntary organisations within the city at the time, such as the Women’s Voluntary Alliance (WVA).

Finally, any Armed Service personnel who visited York during these years are of great interest to me. I would love to talk to anyone who can provide any information.
