AS A regular user of Fulford Road and its many junctions, both on cycle and driving various motor vehicles, it is hard to believe the traffic planners could make such a mess of trying to improve a highway that was not broken in the first place.
This expensive and disruptive exercise was all in the name of kow-towing to the trendy greens and installing bus lanes and cycle tracks.
Cycle lanes are okay if they are used, but bus lanes for the seconds they may gain are not – York is not big enough to accommodate them.
After all this time, the filter light into Hospital Fields Road from York has not been reinstated, hence buses, cycles, cars and articulated lorries are left in limbo, stranded when the lights turn straight to red.
It surprises me the police have had nothing to say over this fiasco as traffic has no other option, but to get out of the way and turn right through a red light. Then we have workers and shoppers entering and leaving Imphal Barracks, Iceland and Aldi, with no thought put into this.
