A DOUBLE first has been bagged by cup kings York Schoolboy Under-11s.
Hot on the heels of beating Leeds in the Yorkshire Cup final, the York boys beat the East Riding in the League Cup final.
The Minster city boys, playing their last game at U11s level, completed the first twin cup success in the team’s history with a 5-0 triumph at Hull City’s Centre of Excellence.
The visitors took the lead after only five minutes when the ‘keeper failed to hold a Jamie Spaven strike and Louis Cade fired home the rebound.
George Brown made it 2-0 with a header from a corner and, after Henry Rollinson had struck a post, Sam Drake notched a third.
East Riding were well and truly sunk when Brown collected his second early in the second half, poking the ball home from close range.
Sam Fielding and Rhys Meredith continued to make further inroads down the right for York and a cross from the latter supplied Brown with his hat-trick.
Manager Ian Hutchinson said: “This team has improved as the season has gone on and ended in spectacular style. To claim a double is beyond our wildest dreams.”
Trials for next season’s U11s will start on Monday, June 7 at York College in Sim Balk Lane.
Players are asked to register at 5.45pm and must have been sent through their primary school in York.
