OVINGTON continued their unbeaten start to the season with a thrilling victory over Heworth in the York & District Junior Cricket Association Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire Under-15s League.
Having previously struggled in a tough Zone ‘B’ section, the win meant the Little Knavesmire-based side have won their opening three encounters this season.
Ovington posted 122 with Christopher Tune (29), Dan Smith (17), Alistair Souch (17) and Ben Fvenson (13) the main run scorers. Tune was involved again when Ovington bowled – taking 2-22 as Heworth were out for 114.
Alex Reed (2-23), Calum Smith (1-6), Fvenson (1-8) and Ryan Ballantyne (1-22) also weighed in with wickets.
Team manager Doug Tune said: “We are hoping the run can continue. We’ve got four new players from our U13s playing this season and they are doing very well. They have definitely made a difference.
“We’ve also got a bit more experience now and a bit more of an idea tactically.”
Elsewhere York ‘A’ bowled Clifton Alliance out for 59 and then cruised to a ten-wicket win, with Hamish Lynde finishing on 46 not out.
The wickets were sharred by Felix Adams (3-8), Peter Boxall (2-6) and Ben Williams (2-3).
Acomb’s Will Booth retired on 51 as he led his side to 95-7 against Malton.
The Ryedale side replied with 72-6, with Will Spencer top-scoring with 37. Acomb’s Tom Owens took 2-23.
Chris Tune top-scored with 36 as Ovington overhauled Sheriff Hutton Bridge’s 96-9, winning by two wickets. Matty Fisher and David Hull picked up two wickets apiece for Bridge.
Earlier, Tune had taken 2-10.
In Zone ‘C’, Dunnington hit 117-4 against Wheldrake and reduced their opponents to 92-9.
Danny Andrew retired on 54 for Dunnington.
Bowlers James Hall, Dan Littlewood, Shaz Gopal and Liam Hessay all took two wickets in the Wheldrake innings.
Londesborough Park’s total of 108-4 was not enough as Osbaldwick were steered to a two-wicket win by Matt Durkin, who retired on 50.
Unbeaten Selby ‘A’ edged out York ‘B’ in the Hirepoint Plant & Tool Hire U13s League Zone ‘A’. Selby made 109-2 and then restricted York to 97-5.
Matt Orr scored 21 in Bolton Percy’s 58 all out against Yapham, who then cruised to their first win by eight wickets.
Ovington made 55-5 against Cawood, who then cruised home for the loss of only two wickets.
A knock of 33 by Matty Fisher saw Sheriff Hutton Bridge beat Acomb by five wickets after the York side had totalled 64-8 batting first.
York ‘A’ made 99-9 against Malton & Old Malton, with Toby Pratt making an unbeaten 38.
Harry Richardson then took 2-1 and Zac Ransome 2-5 as Malton were all out for 75.
Ovington ‘A’ posted 83-6 against Clifton Alliance, but Alliance won by seven wickets.
Osbaldwick ‘A’s 108-3 against Heworth included an unbeaten 30 from Jonny Rawsthorne, who then took 2-13 to restrict Heworth to 67-8.
In Zone ‘C’, Stamford Bridge posted a modest 68-8 against Pocklington, who then edged to a three-wicket win.
A determined 15 not out from Harry Shepheard failed to save Osbaldwick ‘B’, who only made 38-6 against Woodhouse Grange.
Grange then reached their target for the loss of three wickets.
Londesborough Park rattled up 127-4 against Selby ‘B’ and then restricted their foes to 60-6 in reply.
