POLICE and firefighters were tonight called to a stretch of river in York after reports of a person in the water.
They began searching the River Ouse at Water End, close to the RSPCA centre on Landing Lane, at about 8.35pm when the alarm was raised.
The search involved two fire engines and a North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service boat, but nobody was found in the water and the teams left the scene before 10pm.
