COACHES are looking to kick-start girls rugby league in York.
New Earswick All Blacks set up their girls section seven years ago and are the only amateur club in York still running an under-16s team.
However, they are desperately short of players between the ages of 14 and 16, despite winning the league last year.
Coach Tony Foster said: “The game was really popular with girls at one point, but a lot of the players have moved up and we are struggling at this age group.
“We are still playing festivals but we have only had about eight or nine players, so we haven’t been able to enter the league.”
Training sessions are held at New Earswick’s White Rose Avenue ground on Tuesdays at 6pm.
