A HORTICULTURAL extravaganza will be the highlight of an event in aid of a York charity later this month.
Visitors to the annual Riccall Open Gardens show, which is being staged to raise funds for St Leonard’s Hospice, will have the chance to see a string of new displays, including one using natural and man-made recycled materials.
Called “the Gnome Garden” and designed by Thomas Barrett, it will be based in West Court, off Kelfield Road, and will include a workshop made of fallen trees and drystone wall features such as a barbecue area and an archway.
It is one of ten gardens throughout the village to go on show to the public on June 13, with one in Hawthorns boasting climbing plants, fruit trees and a water feature, and another in Northfield Lane taking the appearance of a cottage garden, while one of the areas will house a life-sized Dalek.
Plants, magazines and books will be on sale in some of the gardens and allotments in the village will be open for inspection, with the event being organised by the St Leonard’s Hospice Riccall Support Group.
Programmes which give entry to the gardens cost £2.
The gardens will be open from 1pm to 5pm.
