POLICE are investigating after a woman was allegedly assaulted in York.
The incident reportedly happened shortly after 4am on Thursday as the woman in her 30s was heading toward Plonkers wine bar, in Cumberland Street.
A man is said to have dragged the woman into an alleyway and assaulted her.
The man is thought to be Turkish and is described as in his late 30s, and with short, brown hair and wearing a black jacket and dark blue jeans.
Anyone with any information should phone DS Rowan on 0845 60 60 247. Alternatively Crimestoppers can be phoned anonymously on 0800 555 111.
UPDATE
When we initially reported this incident we stated that the alleged assault occurred near the Blue Fly Café Bar in New Street.
This was incorrect. In fact, the woman had been seen talking to the alleged offender in the Blue Fly Café Bar in the early hours of June 4 but claimed she was assaulted in an alley off Cumberland Street some time later.
We apologise for any confusion, and are happy to set the record straight.
