PENDULUM have got the world at their feet. Million-sellers, with Immersion the UK’s number one album, the Australian dance outfit are regaled in print and particularly on the festival circuit.
That live vibe is an important part of their sound. You get the sense they create their records – this one following Hold Your Colour and In Silico – as much for the arena as the studio. So it is difficult to judge the effect this collection of noises have in the rarefied air of CD or download.
Only in concert will the full potential be unleashed. That said, there is a marked progression in the sound of vocalist Rob Swire and his team. Lead single Watercolour is where you see it most, with the addition of horns providing an unusual flourish. But it is prevalent throughout an eclectic mix of 15 tracks. Just make sure you catch them in the flesh.
