Marcus Brigstocke is to join soap stars Amy Nuttall and Todd Carty in the cast for the York run of Eric Idle’s musical Monty Python’s Spamalot.
Brigstocke, pictured, will play King Arthur, alongside Nuttall’s Lady Of The Lake and Carty’s Patsy, at the Grand Opera House, from November 22 to 27. Idle himself will make an appearance in the Tony Award-winning show in the role of God, albeit as a recording as “they couldn’t afford to cart this God-like comic around the country”. Brigstocke was the host of BBC4’s topical show The Late Edition and now takes this satirical show on tour as The Early Edition.
His television appearances include Have I Got News For You as host and panellist, QI and Question Time; lead roles as Adam Savage in Simon Nye’s BBC1 sitcom The Savages and in BBC3’s Vacant Possession; and the cult character of self-promoting TV historian David Oxley in We Are History. On BBC Radio 4, he has the regular role of the angry young man on The Now Show with Punt and Dennis and he has starred in the films Love Actually, Beyond The Sea, Piccadilly Jim and Telstar. Tickets for the 7.30pm evening performances and 2.30pm Wednesday and Saturday matinees can be booked on 0844 847 2322 or online at grandoperahouseyork.org.uk
