PART of the A1 in North Yorkshire will be closed to traffic in both directions this weekend.

The A1 between Dishforth and Leeming will be closed overnight on Friday and Saturday for the removal of scaffolding installed during construction of the new Londonderry Bridge.

The closure will run from 8pm to 6am on both nights and clearly-signed diversions will be in place.

Southbound traffic will leave the A1 at Leeming Bar and join the A684 towards Northallerton, before joining the A168 and the A19/A168 and rejoining the A1(M) at Junction 49 at Dishforth.

Northbound traffic will leave the A1(M) at Junction 49 and follow the A168, A19 and A689 before rejoining at A1(M) Junction 60, northbound.

The work is part of the ongoing A1(M) upgrade project between Dishforth and Leeming.

Project manager David Brindle said: “We need to close the A1 overnight to safely dismantle the extensive scaffolding structure installed while the new Londonderry bridge was built, as it spans the upgraded carriageway.”
