The prize is presented each year in memory of ex-York College student, Caroline Stuttle, who was murdered during her gap year in Australia in 2002.

Caroline’s mother, Marjorie Marks-Stuttle, who set up the charity Caroline’s Rainbow Foundation which aims to promote safety awareness for young travellers, presented 18-year-old Elin with a certificate and £50 of book tokens.

Elin Box (an ex- Canon Lee School pupil) from Rawcliffe plans to study a psychology degree at Durham University.

Her tutor, Andy Higgs, said: “Elin has developed a quiet, determined attitude to her studies over the last two years that has seen her blossom into an outstanding student of psychology. She is not afraid to ask pertinent and relevant questions.”
