CAMPAIGNERS have praised councillors and officials for helping to make life safer for pedestrians at two accident hotspots in East Yorkshire.
Pressure group Action Access A1079, supported by MP Greg Knight, started campaigning for safety improvements on the A1079 at Barmby Moor and Wilberfoss after two pedestrians lost their lives.
Now, work has been completed to create new pedestrian islands in the centre of the road, near the villages’ bus stops. Grahame Hicks, group chairman, said: “The fatalities highlighted the dangers pedestrians in particular can face, not only at Barmby Moor and Wilberfoss, but anywhere where they have to cross this very busy road.
“The recent improvements carried out and funded by East Riding of Yorkshire Council will make life for local residents much safer and the council is is to be congratulated for its action.”
