I refer to the letter from Mr S Stephenson regarding his “disgust at Elvington Airfield losing its fight over noise”.

It needs to be understood that the main impact of some motor sport/testing activities have not been on the residents of Elvington, but mostly on those living near to the main runway in or near to Wheldrake Parish. These people had had to endure noise impact, the severity of which would have been apparent to anyone who might have taken the trouble to read the judgements made in both the Crown and the Magistrates’ Courts.

Unfortunately, Elvington Park Ltd have chosen over the years not to engage in meaningful dialogue with local representatives, which may have resulted in the formal action taken by City of York Council on behalf of residents being unnecessary.

I would suggest that it is a gross exaggeration and misleading for Mr Stephenson to state that Elvington would suffer without the airfield. Some activities operated by Elvington Park Ltd do not significantly impact on residents, and the noise problems have had nothing to do with the industrial estate or the Air Museum.
