A MAN was rescued by firefighters after a pan of potatoes left unattended on the stove caught fire.
Firefighters were called to the house in Tudor Road, Acomb at 5.30am yesterday. They discovered the house was full of smoke.
They smashed the front door and colleagues wearing breathing equipment went into the property and led a 43-year-old man to safety.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics but did not need hospital treatment.
A spokesman for North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said the fire had been caused by a pan of potatoes that had been left unattended on the stove.
