There are still seven unbeaten teams in the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League and Wetherby Castlegarth in division six are favourites for their title.

They dented the hopes of visitors and title challengers Nestl in a see-sawing match. Though the visitors included a 12-0, Castlegarth had a solid start winning 26 games.

Rufforth have made a late bid for the second promotion spot with wins at New Earswick and against Wistow. Andy Ivel and Judith Evans were unbeaten in both games, matching the scoring of the husband-and-wife combination of Paul and Sue Yoward.

Gareth Adams and Louise Marshman were one of the many couples to win 30 games or more when they led York to record a big win at Fulford seconds and then defeat their second team in division one.

Poppleton also beat Fulford seconds and Castlegarth to leave Castlegath and Civil Service, who lost to Dunnington, odds-on for an instant return to division two.

Wigginton gained four more points to consolidate their division two leadership after getting the better of both Selby and a useful Stillington side.

Stillington then bounced back with a win at struggling Tadcaster. John Rutherford and Lorraine Peary won 27 games for Tadcaster but could not stave off defeat.

Sherburn look to be heading for the division four trophy. A big win against Civil Service was followed by the loss of just two sets against Cawood to stay top with main rivals Heworth, who drew with Cawood. Ben Storey and Sue Espiner won their last rubber 11-1 to help Wigginton to the points against Sutton-on-Derwent to ease away from the relegation area.

Dunnington put the pressure on Wheldrake in division seven, but the leaders were in no mood to relinquish their unbeaten record.

Matthew Starr and Jo Middleton helped Fulford to the points with a game in hand and the two leaders are due to meet next week.

Highest scorers of the week were division eight's Stamford Bridge with a hefty defeat of Next Generation who are in danger of the drop with their second team looking for promotion in the division below them.

Rowntree Park's Bob Shread and Sandra Robinson have thrown open the second promotion place leading their side to a win against second-placed Escrick.

Two of the remaining matches for Heworth in division ten could be the answer to promotion as they have both the two teams above them left to play after beating Strensall.
