I would like to correct the inaccuracies contained in the report ‘York Station traffic flow under spotlight’ in Tuesday’s Press (July 6).

The text referred to a report written in March regarding Tea Room Square and contained information which is now out of date.

While City of York Council is still working with East Coast and Network Rail on possible improvements to the existing network layout, references to problems caused by buses involved on race-day shuttle services are incorrect.

In April this year, the council and the three bus companies involved in raceday shuttle services introduced a joint service, departing from a stop opposite the station, completely removing them from the portico area.

This partnership arrangement was reported in The Press on this on June 8.

Both the Competition and Local Transport Acts provide only limited opportunities where such agreements can legally be made and the new partnership arrangements required a great deal of trust and goodwill from all parties; a testament to the value of York’s Quality Bus Partnership.

I would like to publicly express my thanks to all of the bus operators for their assistance in making this agreement possible.

Andrew Bradley, Principal Transport Planner (Operations), City of York Council.
