DISINTEGRATION – such a very Cure title – was Fat Bob’s eighth studio album, the one with the spidery Lullaby, Fascination Street, Lovesong and Pictures Of You, a predilection for longer, cinematic songs and worldwide sales of three million.
It is 21 years old now, never bettered since by Robert Smith’s lipstick Goths, and ripe for a refurb with added rarities and unreleased songs.
Smith duly oversees a re-mastered three-disc edition that spans the album’s evolution, from home demos to studio and finally the Wembley Arena stage for an expanded version of the low-key Entreat live album in Disintegration track order.
Every dark Cure cliché is here, but so too are beauty, sadness and perfect lysergic pop, all gathered in the nine-minute nirvana of The Same Deep Water As You.
