A STREET in Heworth may be closed to through traffic following road safety fears from residents.

City of York Council officers are considering closing Eastern Terrace, which runs between East Parade and Heworth Green, to through traffic because of fears about speeding motorists who use the street to avoid queuing at traffic lights further on.

Ward councillor Ruth Potter said: “After recommending a speed indicator device for monitoring speeds on Eastern Terrace and Wood Street last November, officers are now giving serious consideration to closing the road to through traffic.

Coun Tina Funnell said: “It is clear that people are using Eastern Terrace to avoid traffic signals.”
